UNIT 8: FILMS

Lesson 1: Getting Started – What film shall we see? (P.16-P.17)

A. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
- extend and practise vocabulary related to the topic ' Films"
- listen and read a conversation between Mai and Duong about films
- do the task: listen and read, answer the questions, matching the types of films with their definitions , fill in the blanks.
2. Skills:
- listening ,reading and spoken interaction
3. Attitude:
-  have positive attitude while working in individual or with their classmates
- enjoy films and actors....
4. Competencies:
- Co- operation
- Self- study
- Problem solving.

I. WARM UP (5’)    
 Brainstorming
*Methods and techniques: Brainstorming, group work
*Competences: co-oporation, memory words related films
- Elicit any information Ss  know about films by asking about types of  film they  know,  the latest films they have  seen , their favorite films and  film stars
- Use the pictures in  textbook to introduce the  new lesson

II. KNOWLEDG FORMING (13’)
1. New words:
*Methods and techniques: ask and answer , explain,  
*Competences: memory words,  
- Teacher elicits the words from students.
- Follow the seven steps of teaching vocab.

2. Listen and read:
2.1.Pre-the dialogue
*Methods and techniques: role-play, pair work.
*Competences: ask and answer about the main topic of the dialogue through the picture
- T uses the  pictures in the  textbook to set the  scene and  asks  some  questions:
Where are Phong and his sister Mai?
What are they talking about?
-  Ask ss to listen and read the conversation.
-Play the  recording  twice
-Ask ss to read the conversation aloud in pairs.
1. Answer the  questions
-Ask ss to work individually to choose the correct answer to the questions.
- Ask ss to read aloud the answers.
- T confirms the  correct answers
III. PRACTICE: 20’
*Methods and techniques: work individually
*Competences: observing, self-study
1. Find the  questions in the  conversation that ask about Coconut Crazy. Listen, check and repeat (ex1b.  P17)
-Run through  the  phrases
- Ask ss to work in pairs to look at the conversation and find the questions.
- Call on some pairs to read aloud and   some ss to write on the board.
-Ask ss  to listen, check   and repeat the  questions


2. Matching the types of films with their definitions. Then listen, check and  repeat .Ex2. P17
- Run through the phrases and sentences.
- Ask ss to work individually to match the types of films with their definitions.
- Play the recording for ss to check their answers then ask  them  to repeat.
- Correct their pronunciation if  necessary
- Help  ss translate them  into Vietnamese

3. Think of a film.  Fill in the  blank ex 3a.P17
- Have ss work dependently, filling in the table with the information of the films they have seen recently. Remind them to use the words and phrases they have learnt in 2 and from the conversation

IV.APPLICATION(5’)
In pairs, interview each other and  try  to guess the  film ( ex3b. P17)
*Methods and techniques: work in group
*Competences: communication
-Ask Ss to study the example.
-T models with a good student.
-Ask Ss  to  work in pairs
- Go around to  help  weak students
- Call on some  pairs to practice

* Competences: self-discovery.
- Talk about the film you like best
- Learn by heart all the new words and structures.
